This winery is run by the young Mariani brothers, Andrew and Adam, who were born into a family that has been farming in California for four generations. They grow grapes organically on a site in southern Sonoma where Riesling and Sylvaner were first planted by Germans in the 1850s, and practice unique winemaking that is rooted in the land. When they set their sights on this land in 2007, the land and buildings were in such a dilapidated state that it was hard to imagine Scribe Winery as it is today, and no one would even consider establishing a winery here. The Mariani brothers first started by restoring the ecosystem of the land, removing the remains of a chicken farm that needed to be completely disinfected, and succeeded in restoring the original shape of the hill so that the slope and inclination of the hill could be seen at a glance. After that, they removed poisonous sumac and other plants that were harmful to the grapes, and planted dandelions, cosmos, and other vegetables to create an environment that is favored by insects that are essential to a healthy ecosystem. Thus, Scribe Winery and its hacienda are being revived by the Mariani brothers, restoring the glory that was established 100 years ago by Julius Dressel, a German immigrant who founded a winery on the same land. The wines are made to reflect the individuality of the land to the maximum extent, avoiding strong oak aromas and high alcohol content, and are pure. All of the vineyards are organically grown. They believe that winemaking is agriculture, and what they want from Scribe is for their wines to create encounters between people. And they want the winery to be more than just a place to make wine, but a stage where people can connect, like a speakeasy during the Prohibition era. At tastings, they treat guests to homemade dishes made with ingredients from the chicken farm and vegetable garden on the premises, and they often hold dinners featuring notable young chefs. This may be a new form of California wine... This is a representative of the wineries that have been making waves recently, known as "New California," and is a winery that has been featured in many media outlets in the United States and is attracting a lot of attention.
