Royal St. Robert's motto is "the pursuit of quality" that their grandfather Robert taught them. This wine is a selection of the best wines in the cellar, and uses the best wines from the cool, rugged, west-facing slopes of the Sonoma Coast. We wanted to make a world-class California Pinot Noir with our own hands... That's what started the project called RAEN. The winery's name is an acronym of "Research in Agriculture and Enology Naturally," which represents their passion for agriculture and winemaking. The rain that falls on the fields is eventually absorbed by the trees and transformed into grapes that are the raw material for wine. The winery's name also refers to the rain that is the source of life for these grapes. Rain is a fresh winery founded in 2013 on the Sonoma Coast by two thoroughbreds in the California wine industry, Carlo and Dante Mondavi. Carlo and Dante's father is Tim Mondavi of Continuum, and they are the grandsons of Robert Mondavi, known as the "father of California wine." Born and raised in Napa Valley, Carlo and Dante were exposed to wine from an early age at Robert Mondavi Winery and Opus One, and at Continuum, which started in 2005, they have been extensively involved in cultivation and brewing under the supervision of their father Tim since its inception. It was their grandfather Robert and father Tim who made Carlo and Dante fall in love with Pinot Noir. Their father Tim, who was in charge of winemaking at Robert Mondavi in its heyday, was known as a pioneer of Pinot Noir, and his sons inherited his strong passion for Burgundy wine. In 2013, Carlo and Dante began their pursuit of Pinot Noir on the foundation of Rain. This was the moment when "world-class Pinot Noir" was engraved in the history of the Mondavi family. Royal St. Robert Cuvee's motto is "the pursuit of quality" that their grandfather Robert taught them. It is made from grapes grown in west-facing vineyards in Green Valley, in the Russian River Valley, known for its harsh environment for grapes. A small amount of grapes from the Occidental vineyards are blended to give the wine a complex aroma. The home field is located in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, about 3 km inland from the Pacific Ocean, north of the town of Jenner. The climate is very cool, and the growing season is long. The vineyard is located above the fog that occurs every morning, allowing the grapes to continue photosynthesizing. The bodega is surrounded by sequoia trees and native plants, and is located in a unique Sonoma grape growing region that is currently undergoing an application for AVA as Freestone Occidental. This is the vineyard with the lowest daytime temperatures and the longest growing season. The result is a wine that combines balance and depth. The wine label has the AVA name printed largest on it, giving it a somewhat French wine feel. This is Carlo and Dante's wish to have people taste their wines that bring out the individuality and terroir of each region, rather than appealing to their own names as winemakers or the brand Rain.
