It has aromas like Old World wines, such as red currant, cherry, savory herbs, rosemary, star anise, lavender, and pencil lead. It has the silky texture that is unique to Mayacamas Cabernet, and is delicious to drink young. Mayacamas Vineyards is a long-established winery located near the top of Mount Veeder in the southern Mayacamas Mountains of Napa Valley, and its history dates back to 1889. In 1968, Bob Travers, who was involved in winemaking at Heights Cellars at the time, purchased the winery, and in the red wine category at the Paris Tasting in 1976, the 1971 Cabernet Sauvignon won 7th place. In the 30th anniversary tasting of this tasting held in 2006, the same wine won third place, beating out France's Grand Vin. This was the moment when Mayacamas wines were proven worldwide that their potential could be fully realized by long-term aging. Since 2013, the winery has been under the umbrella of the Schottenstein Group, and Andy Erickson, a former winemaker at Screaming Eagle and a young and talented winemaker, is supervising the winemaking, and Braden Albrecht, a young talent of the new era, is making the wine. In addition, Phil Coturri, known as a pioneer of organic and biodynamic farming in California, is in charge of replanting the fields that had been neglected for a long time. Their only goal is to continue to produce high-quality, traditional style wines that are worthy of the winery's 120-year history. 2012 was an ideal vintage. A mild and dry spring began, and the flowers and fruiting proceeded smoothly. The summer was warm during the day and very cool with thick fog at night, resulting in well-balanced grapes. The heatwave in the first week of September accelerated the ripening process, and harvesting began on September 10th and ended two weeks later. Only grapes from the highlands of Mount Veeder are used, including some grapes that are over 40 years old. The soil in this area is a mixture of volcanic soil and ancient seabed sedimentary soil, and is known for its excellent drainage. The grapes are characterized by rich minerality and refreshing acidity. The 2012 vintage is a "collaboration" wine in which legendary winemaker Bob Travers, who previously owned Mayacamas, completed the brewing, and Andy Erickson, known as a genius winemaker, completed the final blend. This is a masterpiece that was completed without compromising the traditional style and flavor that Mayacamas has built up over the years.
The grapes are harvested early to preserve fresh acidity and firm tannins. The wine is vinified in concrete tanks that have been in use since the 1950s. The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in 100% old barrels for a total of 36 months, 18 months in large-capacity fermenters and the remaining 18 months in barriques. After bottling, the wine is aged for another 12 months before being released. Mayacamas Vineyards is a long-established winery located near the top of Mount Veeder in the southern Mayacamas Mountains of Napa Valley, with a history dating back to 1889. In 1941, British businessman Jack Taylor built a gravity-fed winery and planted Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon on the property. In 1968, Bob and Elinor Travers, who were winemakers at Heights Cellars at the time, purchased Mayacamas Vineyards and began producing fine Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1976, Mayacamas Vineyards' 1971 Cabernet Sauvignon won seventh place in the red wine category at the Paris Tasting, raising its reputation. For the next 40 years, Mayacamas Vineyards wines have been widely known as the most classic style of Napa Valley, with a wild side and the highest quality mountain wines. In 2006, the same lineup of wines was blind-tasted at the 30th anniversary tasting of the Paris Tasting, and this time Mayacamas' 1971 Cabernet Sauvignon won third place, beating out the French Grand Vin. This is due to the long aging of Mayacamas Vineyards wines.
It was a moment when the world proved that this was a wine that could fully realize its inherent potential. Since 2013, the winery has been under the umbrella of the Schottenstein Group, and Andy Erickson, former winemaker at Screaming Eagle and a talented young winemaker garnering attention, is in charge of winemaking, while Braden Albrecht, a young talent of the new era, is making the wine. In addition, Phil Coturri, known as a pioneer of organic and biodynamic farming methods in California, is in charge of replanting the vineyards, which had been neglected for a long time. They have only one goal: to continue to produce high-quality, traditionally styled wines that live up to the winery's more than 120-year history. Winery
The winery and grounds, covering approximately 190 hectares, are located in the Mount Veeder AVA, known as the coolest region in Napa Valley, with a long grape growing season and very low average yields. The planted area is approximately 21 hectares, and the vineyards are located in mountainous areas 550m to 730m above the Napa Valley floor. The winery's name comes from the Mayacamas Mountains, known as the border between the west side of Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley, and is said to mean "mountain lion roar" in the American Indian language of the Wappo people. Two mountain lions are depicted inside the "M" in the winery's logo.

The flagship Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold, classic style wine that can be aged for a long time. The Chardonnay is aged only in used barrels without any MLF, making it a straightforward wine that allows you to taste the natural minerality of the grapes.
