Gravel soil. 0.75ha. Hand-picked. Fermented in stainless steel tank for 21 days, aged in stainless steel tank for 18 months. Chateau des Zérans is a small chateau owned by the Gonet-Médeville couple. Surrounded by the wonderful vineyards of Chateau Margaux, Chateau Lascombes, and Chateau Palmer, the Gonet-Médeville couple owns a vineyard located right next to Chateau Margaux, just across a 3m road from Chateau Margaux. The Gonet-Médeville couple are from a prestigious family in Champagne and Bordeaux. Xavier, the husband, is the third son of Philippe Gonet, the prestigious Champagne family of Mesnil-sur-Oger, and his wife Julie is the third daughter of Chateau Gilette, the prestigious Sauternes family. The couple met while studying at the University of Bordeaux and married in 1997. In 2004, the couple started making wine in Bordeaux. In 2009, fate came to this young couple. They purchased vines from Eric Grandeur, who has been the winemaker at Chateau Margaux for three generations. In 2013, they also purchased the land and became the owners of the chateau. Eric, who knows Chateau Margaux inside and out, believed in the passion and potential of the young couple for wine and entrusted this wonderful vineyard to them. The vineyard has a typical Margaux geology, with granite layers 22 meters underground. The couple, who place importance on terroir, replanted the vines in 2009 and began cultivating using the lutte raisonnée method, which does not use pesticides. Although they are not certified organic, they use organic farming and plan to switch to biodynamic farming in the future. The two wine makers aim to express the terroir and produce wines with plenty of fruitiness and suppleness, so they divide the grapes into plots and make Burgundy-style wines. With the completion of a winery equipped with modern facilities, they are able to produce even higher quality wines, making this a notable chateau that produces even more refined wines.
