The history of this winery began when Aimé and Hubert Brochard took over from their parents. Like many families of the time, their daily activities were very diverse, working in the fields, growing wines, managing the farm and raising goats. Their only son, Henri, naturally took over from his parents and married Thérèse, whom he met later. The two continued the farm and the vineyards, but after developing the grape cultivation and wine sales methods, they stopped mixed farming and focused on winemaking. Their son Daniel then took over the winery. He developed a global marketing campaign and expanded the range, making the business a success. In 1982, his wife Christiane joined the team. Since then, they expanded their winemaking by purchasing new vineyards around Chavignol and Sancerre. ■The ideal terroir for wine
The approximately 62 hectares of vineyards owned by the company in Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé are spread across magnificent hilly terrain, perfect for cultivation. Three types of soil, composed of rich and diverse natural elements, give the grape varieties fine texture and exquisite aromas. 1. Caillote: Chalk soil, or "caillote", is rich in minerals and allows water to penetrate easily, resulting in fruity wines.
2) White Earth (Clay-Limestone): This soil is found on the slopes of the highest hills. It is composed of 70% clay and 30% limestone and accounts for 40% of the Sancerre vineyards. It produces wines that are rich, full-bodied and complex.
③ Siliceous rock terroir: Siliceous rocks called "flint" make up 15% of this appellation. Flint stores the heat of the sun during the day and releases it at night. It gives the wine a clear and elegant minerality. ■2022 is a new turning point
In 2022, Hubert Brochard will be succeeded by Langlois, part of the Bollinger Family Group since 1973. Already a winemaker with two wineries (Château de Fontaines-Audon and Tauvenay), Langlois wants to strengthen its presence in the region.
