A sensual nose of ripe black fruit. Silky and acidic, with a beautiful minerality and covered in dense tannins. Château de Millery is a small chateau of only 0.82ha owned by the Manoncourt family, the same as Château Figeac, which attracted attention for being promoted to Premier Cru Classe A in Saint-Emilion in the Saint-Emilion classification announced in September 2022. In 1942, Thierry Manoncourt's grandmother purchased the vineyard with her military service reward during World War II. Hoping for her son's safe return, her grandmother placed her hopes in a small twig on the plateau east of Saint-Emilion. Returning from the war, Thierry Manoncourt earned a degree in agricultural engineering and identified the excellent quality of the chateau's terroir, designing the label himself using the oak tree in the vineyard as a model. Currently, his daughter Blandine de Briet Manoncourt has taken over the Château, and Frédéric Fayet, who also manages Château Figeac, is the president and winemaker, with the Château Figeac team still in charge of cultivation and winemaking to this day. The Château is located in the commune of Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, east of Saint-Emilion. The soil is gently sloping clay-limestone, with a cultivated area of 0.82 hectares and a cultivation ratio of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is 35 years, with 4,000 vines planted and a production volume of 4,000 to 4,500 bottles. Since 2015, the harvest has been carried out in two batches, the fermentation tanks have been divided into two, and the amount of SO2 added has been reduced by soft compression, making improvements. A few years ago, they switched to aging in French oak (80-100% new barrels). The result is a beautiful Merlot-based wine full of charm and mellowness, with plump tannins, beautiful texture, and a long finish that makes it great to drink now, but also has the potential to age well. The wine has the freshness and fruitiness that are characteristic of the Manoncourt family's wines, and is always in pursuit of a pure taste. Chateau de Millery was not originally intended for sale, but as a wine for the Manoncourt family to enjoy with their close friends and family, and was not sold to Bordeaux négociants and was a secret wine. In order to get this wine to everyone, they partnered with Le Grand Fille et Fils, a long-established wine shop founded in Paris. Very little is exported to Japan, so please enjoy this hidden treasure.
