This wine opens with rich fruit and spice aromas reminiscent of wild rose, toffee, baking spices and cola.
The characteristic deep red rosewood colour reflects the depth of colour of the various varietals and indicates the wine's juicy, fruit-driven flavours.
On the palate, waves of black cherry, wild berry compote, pomegranate and maple syrup greet you.
The finish is complemented by vibrant plum, raspberry, hibiscus and a touch of birch spice.
Rich fruit aromas of wild cherry and strawberry from Zinfandel and Grenache are carefully layered with the earthy notes of Syrah and the peppery spice of Petite Sirah for a savory element.
With a foundation of Zinfandel and complex companions such as Petite Sirah and Syrah, this wine is immensely pleasing without being constrained by a single varietal profile.
The 2021 growing season continued to show the effects of several years of drought.
During the early stages of growth, there were successive cold spells that damaged young shoots.
However, there was no significant heat during the ripening period, so ripening and harvest proceeded at a steady and moderate pace.
Given the challenges early in the season, harvests were surprisingly abundant, rewarding the perseverance and diligence of growers across all sub-AVAs in adopting new agronomic techniques.
Each parcel was vinified and barrel aged separately, then blended incrementally over a period of 16 months.
Those that go well together, such as Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, were blended early in the aging cycle, while those that don't are aged separately for an extended period of time before being blended once they are fully aged.
The final blending took place four months before bottling to allow the wines to integrate and mature.
We choose to age our wine exclusively in French oak.
Their elegance and delicacy are well suited to each of our varietal components, and we believe that this commonality blurs the varietal characteristics and gives the blend a sense of unity and harmony.
Do you know the word "cannonball"? Originally, "cannonball" meant a cannonball.
A cannonball dive is when you curl up like a cannonball, hug your knees, jump toward the sky, and jump into the water making as big a splash as possible.
The uninhibited, free spirit of childhood is the soul of Cannonball wine.
Cannonball will make you smile.

Angels & Cowboys was created in collaboration with award-winning graphic designer Michael Schwab (https://michaelschwab.com/logos.html).
Unlike Cannonball, which is a single varietal, Angels & Cowboys creates multi-varietal blends that allow the winemaker to demonstrate his or her talents.
In typical A&C style, we always try to think outside the box.
In 2020, we launched a sparkling wine program to provide lightness and conviviality in volatile and uncertain times.
