"Sixto means rebirth and resurrection.
" -Winemaker Charles Smith Inspired by the story of musician Sixto Rodriguez and the acclaimed documentary film "Searching for Sugar Man," Charles wanted to revive something similarly abandoned but hoping to be rediscovered.
Sixt became a "revitalized Chardonnay project" for winemaker Charles Smith and winegrower Brennon Layton, with the first vintage released in 2014.
The brand is comprised of four outstanding wines: three single vineyard wines (Frenchman Hills, Moxie and Rosa Hills Chardonnay) and a blend of the three (Uncover Chardonnay).
Sixt focuses exclusively on old vine Chardonnay from high altitude, cool climate vineyards in Washington State.
The beautiful golden colour and aroma are captivating from the first sip, with a kaleidoscope of passion fruit, apple blossom, pastry and gunpowder.
Medium-bodied, with a subtle richness that highlights the flavor of this single vineyard wine.
Vineyards Frenchman Hills Vineyard (100%) This vineyard was planted in 1998 and is located approximately 30 minutes drive north of Wahluke Slope, one of the warmest regions in the Columbia Valley.
However, Frenchman Hills Vineyard is at a higher elevation of 503 metres and is therefore in a cooler location.
The area is also frost-resistant and has limestone and crushed basalt soils in the upper parts of the vineyard.
2018 was incredibly good.
This outstanding vintage started mildly and enjoyed a long, dry ripening period in autumn.
This allows the fruit to reach optimum ripeness without losing acid or increasing sugar.
The 2018 wines are outstanding in many ways, from the incredible expression of the whites to the beautiful refined complexity of the reds.
