Shibumi Knoll Vineyard is located on a small hill north of St. Helena, surrounded by Taree, Vineyard 29, and Panek. 80% of the soil is rocky and well drained, and the topsoil is a sedimentary soil with good water retention, which is also effective for Cabernet. Aged for 18 months in French barrels (70% new barrels), it has a rich taste of plum and black currant with nuances of earth and stone that well express the terroir of Napa. It is solid but smooth on the palate, well-balanced, and has an impressive long aftertaste.

Tasting Comments

This vintage's Cabernet is rich and delicious.

A perfect expression of Napa terroir, with flavors of plum and blackcurrant along with hints of plowed earth and stone.

It is robust yet smooth on the palate, well-balanced and leaves an impressive long aftertaste.

Pair it with dishes such as filet mignon, roasted vegetables, and chocolate desserts.

Field Information

Dan and Joan's own vineyard adjacent to their cottage.

The area is well drained because it sits on the Mill Creek alluvial fan, where the soil is 80% rocky.

Clay sedimentary soil with good water retention on the topsoil is also effective for Cabernet.

The result is a wine that exhibits the elegance of Napa Cabernet but with the structure found in wines from rocky hillside vineyards.

The wines are harvested at the perfect time - when they are fully ripe but not overripe - resulting in a style reminiscent of Bordeaux Cabernets.
