Rad's flagship - the epitome of Rad Estate's individuality -
The three different soils - red volcanic soil, whitish river deposit soil, and a mixture of clay and sand - produce the diverse individuality of the varieties. Grown organically. Using several types of fermentation tanks, the wine is aged for 22 months in French barrels (17V/44%). It has a fascinating aroma of forest incense, pencil lead, menthol, and Chinese spices, and is mid-to-full-bodied with surprising freshness. The finely-refined tannins leave a lingering impression of spices. Aged for 21 months in French barrels (78% new barrels).
Vintage Information
2016 VTG A long, dry growing year, with ample rainfall in the winter, kept the vines thriving.
Although there were several heat waves in the summer, they brought about just the right amount of ripening, and the grapes harvested in early September were fresh and retained their acidity. The final harvest in early October produced grapes with thick skins that had deep colors and complex flavor elements.
The long harvest period allowed for a vintage in which the ripeness of each plot could be carefully assessed.

Tasting Comments
The first aroma is a deep dark purple hue with an alluring hint of blackberry pie.
Blueberries, black cherries, licorice, wild herbs (garrigues), etc.
Its main features are its smoothness, softness, and savory tannins when you put it in your mouth, and its concentrated, strong core of character.
This is a major element of Rudd's own vineyards - a characteristic of the volcanic sedimentary soil - and the nuances of red soil rich in iron, which are layered on top of the wine's clean acidity.
Rudd's flagship wine is full of earth, iron and Oakville character.
