A blend of three of our own vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains: Alpine, Horseshoe, and Mount Pajaro. Approximately 25% whole-cluster fermentation, aged in French barrels for approximately one and a half years. After selecting single vineyards in Reese, we blended the AVA wines. Black berry, cherry, dry spice, earthy nuances, concentrated and medium-bodied. Complex, Burgundian aromas, ample minerality, and a great finish, show off the classic Santa Cruz Mountains characteristics.
Technical information
Brewing: We use 1-ton stainless steel open-top fermentation tanks so that each plot of the vineyard can be fermented separately (approximately 25% whole-cluster fermentation, using only natural yeast).
Because it is small, it can be lifted with a forklift and can be barreled and moved without the need for a pump.
The wine is aged for approximately one and a half years in French barrels that have been naturally dried for four years (usually less than three years).
After selecting a single vineyard from Reese's, we chose the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA.
Unfiltered and bottled without artificial fining.
Tasting Comments
It firmly embodies the refined elegance of a single vineyard and the characteristics of a complex array of elements.
The nose is rich in aromas of black berries, cherries, dried spices, toasty charcoal and tobacco leaves, earthy forest nuances, and herbs (thyme, rosemary, lavender, eucalyptus, etc.), with juicy, acidic raspberry and blackcurrant flavors that blend with a supple mouthfeel and smooth, elegant tannins.
Concentrated and medium bodied.
It has classic Santa Cruz Mountains character with complex Burgundian aromas, plenty of minerality and a great finish.
