Aged 22 months in French barrels (100% new barrels). A wine widely recognized as the best of Washington wines. The vineyards are a blend of Champoux and Mach One. Rich and concentrated, with fine texture, refined tannins, and a liqueur-like mouthfeel and weight. The aftertaste is very long and appealing, and can be aged for over 20 years. It has received 100 points from Parker many times.
Tasting Comments
Aromas of black fruits, sandalwood, anise and cocoa nibs.
The robust flavors of blackberry, blueberry and plum are layered and vibrant.
It adds an exotic nuance reminiscent of sweet miso or hoisin sauce (a Chinese seasoning with a richer flavor than sweet bean paste).
The wine has a large backbone and well-balanced structure, is very rich and concentrated with a long finish.
Field Information
Shampoo Vineyard
Champo Vineyards
Located north of the Columbia River at an elevation of 180-240 metres, the soil is fine sandy loam.
The previous manager, Champon, significantly improved the quality of the vineyards through vine management and soil nutritional balance, turning them into one of the most highly regarded vineyards in the world.
Grapes from this vineyard have been used almost exclusively for Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon since 2001.
Mach One Vineyards
Mach One Vineyards
Due to its low elevation and proximity to the Columbia River, Mach One is one of the warmest places in Washington state.
Facing south, it receives more than 300 days of sunlight per year.
The shallow loess, combined with the basalt-lined cliffs to the north, supported by fractured basalt and riverbed rock from the Missoula Flood, provides radiant heat that encourages early bud break in the spring and long hang time into the fall.
