Our own vineyards are located on the rolling hills at the southern end of Mount Veeder AVA. At an altitude of 200-300m, cold fog comes in, but the wind is strong and there is plenty of sunshine during the day. Aged for 20 months in French barrels (80% new). The wine has a captivating aroma of black berries, a perfect richness from full ripeness, and robust yet supple tannins. The unique character of our own vineyards at the southern end of Mount Veeder lies in the perfect balance of ideal fruit (not overripe, not too concentrated) and acidity.
Vintage Information
This is the first release of the 2018 VTG. It was a wonderful year that wiped away the difficulties of 2017. It was a perfect season with a winter blessed with ample rain, a warm spring, and a summer without heat waves, resulting in a long growing season. The yield was about the same as that of 2012, which is said to be the best year in recent years, but the quality was even better.
Production volume: 715 cases
Technical information
Winemaking: Grapes are harvested according to their degree of ripeness from patchwork plots of a minimum of 0.2 hectares.
All the wines are fermented separately and aged for 20 months in French barrels (Baron, Lagrange, d'Arnajou, Taranseau) (80% new oak). The main components of the blend are clones 15 and 685, but clones 30 and 169 add a unique complexity and depth that goes beyond concentration.
Tasting Comments
It expresses a completely different character from other Mount Veeder wines. It has a captivating aroma of black berries, a perfect richness from full ripeness, and tannins that are robust yet supple. The character of the company's own vineyards at the southern end of Mount Veeder is in the ideal balance of fruit (not overripe, not too concentrated) and acidity. It is best enjoyed immediately after release. (Thomas Rivers Brown)
