Cabernet Sauvignon 98.15%, Merlot 1.85%. N stands for Neighbor. 14% from our own vineyard, 86% from the neighboring vineyard. We thought it was important to learn the standards of other companies, so we sourced grapes from neighboring vineyards, carefully examined the selection of clones, the orientation of the ridges, and the training method. It was a very valuable experience to verify an approach different from our own winery. It has a pure fruit flavor and a rich mouthfeel, and is a treasure-like wine obtained by exploring the neighborhood.

N stands for Neighbor. (Martinez? David Orser? The name of the vineyard is not disclosed.)

Ovid's experiment began in 2000 when VTG tested different planting methods in terms of flavor.

The theme of N is "Learning the standards of other companies," and this is the fourth vintage that the wine has bears this name.

Learning about a different approach than your neighbor's company is a great learning opportunity.

This time we also tested how to train grape vines.

Modified California Sprawl (MCS) is a cordon-trained tree in which new shoots grow in an arch toward the center of the row and then hang down, allowing the fruit to absorb sunlight well and protecting it from the heat and sun in the afternoon.

The neighboring vineyards have both MCS and the tighter Vertical Shoot Position (VSP) and we observed the difference between the two.

They examined why and how they cultivated their crops, including the direction of the ridges and how they were trained, and by looking at the differences in their approaches, they were able to realize improvements to what they were doing in-house.

Vintage Information

2020 started early with a dry winter and a warm spring. Bud buds, flowering, and pollination proceeded calmly, followed by a comfortable summer. August saw the first consecutive days of temperatures over 37 degrees, which led to an early harvest, and the cultivation team made great efforts to harvest before the wildfires in September.

Tasting Comments

The palate is luscious with fresh blueberries, poisonberries and blackberries, with smooth tannins and powerful, lively finish with hints of forest.
