The red soil rich in iron gives off a fascinating aroma, with rich, well-seasoned fine tannins and a mineral aftertaste.

Tasting Comments

2019 is Pritchard Hill's best year, expressing rich fruit, concentrated power of black and blue berries, and mellow tannins.

The red soil, which contains iron, is a perfect match for meat dishes and provides a satisfying taste.

Field Information

A map of the vineyards in Pritchard Hill, a region packed with famous wineries

The 6.5-hectare Martinez Vineyard is located at an altitude of 365m on "Pritchard Hill," known as the Beverly Hills of Napa Valley (so named because Napa Valley's high-end cult wineries have vineyards there and it is very expensive to cultivate the land), and overlooks the eastern hills of Oakville (Dalla Vallee and Peter Michael's Au Paradis).

Next to Ovid and David Orser.

Philippe Melka's dream of one day producing Pritchard Hill wine as his own has come true, and he can confidently say that this vineyard is one of the best in Napa Valley, allowing the individuality of Pritchard Hill to be fully expressed.

The western Pritchard Hill (Voka Hill) is characterized by a bright red topsoil rich in iron, a layer of crushed large rocks, a layer mixed with pebbles, and several other different layers of rocks, with hard volcanic bedrock at the bottom (right image). The wine has a variety of soil characteristics and is located just above a cliff, so there is no fog, but the weather conditions are such that cold winds blow in.This gives the wine a fascinating aroma, richness, and a complex combination of elements. It has a tense, mellow, fine tannins, and a long, impressive mineral finish, resulting in a gorgeous taste that expresses the terroir.
