Aged 20 months in French barrels (65% new barrels). Located next to Spotswood on the western slope of St. Helena, it is reminiscent of Graves in Bordeaux. The field is a mixture of stones and sand, and is well-drained and thin, making it ideal for growing grapes. Rich yet mellow tannins, the fresh acidity brings the whole together, perfectly expressing the characteristics of Napa Valley and Bench Floor.
Tasting Comments
2018 was one of the great vintages.
The minerality reminiscent of the hardness of stone and rock and crushed rock of Bordeaux Graves is clearly apparent, and the aroma is very strong, with black berries, aniseed-like herbs, the spiciness of cloves, and nuances of oak blending into the scent.
It has a creamy and smooth mouthfeel, plenty of fruit and tannins, is surprisingly fresh, has a tight structure, and has a seductive, powerful flavor and a magnificent concentration.
Black fruits fill the mouth, followed by red fruits and clean acidity for a firm finish.
We recommend uncorking and decanting three hours before drinking.
