The soil is made from iron-rich bedrock and well-drained clay soil on the western foothills of St. Helena. The wine is harvested in small plots and fermented in small stainless steel tanks. A temperature control system is installed and concrete eggs are also used in part. Aged for approximately two years in French barrels. Rich and fresh, with a supple mouthfeel and a concentrated flavor. Even when released, it already contains complex earthiness, undergrowth, mossy wood, ironiness from the soil, and the scent of the forest, and is also fresh.

Vintage Information

2019, along with 2018, was a great vintage.

There was plenty of rain in the winter, which delayed flowering and pollination somewhat, but there was no heat wave in the summer, allowing for a long maturation period and for the fruit to be harvested when they were perfectly ripe.

Technical information

Winemaking: Winemaker Morgan Morey inspects each parcel prior to harvest and determines when to harvest based on visual, taste and scientific analysis.

The grapes are harvested in small plots and fermented in small stainless steel tanks upon arrival at the winery, with each tank equipped with an automatic punch-down system.

Concrete Egg also has its own unique temperature control system, and some black grapes are used after carefully assessing their condition.

Aged 22 months in French barrels.

Tasting Comments

2019 was a great year in all respects.

The aroma is very pronounced with notes of cocoa, espresso, graphite, anise, black fruits and ripe berries.

The taste is rich and full-bodied with excellent concentration and a silky mouthfeel with powerful tannins.

Delightful flavours of milk chocolate, espresso, ripe black currant, blueberry, black cherry and vanilla.

The minerality from the soil gives it a spicy nuance that lingers on for a long time.

If you want to drink it immediately, we recommend decanting it 2-3 hours beforehand. After 5 years in the cellar, further depth will emerge, and it can be expected to age in the bottle for more than 30 years.
