Debbie's Cuvee pursues the style of Bordeaux Blanc from first-growth Bordeaux chateaux, but does not use Semillon or other grapes; it is made using only Sauvignon Blanc in memory of Debbie, who loved Sauvignon Blanc so much.
Vintage Information
Spring and summer in 2020 were generally cool and mild. Heat waves in early August, the weekend of the first Monday in September, and late September accelerated grape ripening and accelerated the growth cycle, so many wineries had already received white wine varieties before the wildfires, and the white wine harvest is expected to be very promising. (Excerpt from the California Wine Board Harvest Report)
It has also produced some very fine wines in Lewes, but production has halved, making it a valuable wine.
Technical information
The grapes for Debys Cuvée are vinified with almost zero contact with oxygen to maximize the strength of the fruit. After whole-cluster pressing, they are fermented and aged in new French barrels (15 months).
Tasting Comments
Aromas of lime zest, Hawaiian spices (cumin, black pepper, cardamom, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, cloves, etc.) and plumeria flowers.
The taste of guava and candied mango is complemented by citrus acidity, and the wine is silky and rich, with a powerful structure and drive, and the taste has iron from the barrel and soil. The finish has a hint of Guérande salt (salt flower).
