Quarzo means crystal in Italian. The grapes are from Shake Ridge Ranch in Amador County. The terrain is very rugged and the geology contains iron, volcanic rocks, and crystals, so it was named Quarzo. 4-5 clones are used. Aromas of black pepper and blackberry, with a lingering finish of violets and black licorice.
Quarzo means quartz in Italian. The grapes come from Ann Creamer's Shake Ridge Farm, located in the Sierra Foothills near Sutter Creek in Amador County, a region that was first cultivated by Italian immigrants in the 1870s. The terrain is rugged and the soil is rich in iron, volcanic rock and quartz.
The name Quarzo comes from its crystal.
We use five different Syrah clones.
Tasting Comments
The aroma of huckleberry, cocoa, and roasted marshmallow is fragrant. Just pour it into a glass and you can feel the aroma opening up and becoming more expressive.
On the palate, the taste is overwhelmingly rich, with notes of black cherries, roasted plums and chocolate sauce oozing from warm chocolate cake.
Powerful, natural and rough-edged tannins add further appeal.
It has a solid structure but is easy to drink even when freshly released, making it very appealing.
There is also the pleasure of letting it age for a long time.
