Our own vineyards are located in the rolling hills at the southern end of the Mount Veeder AVA. The soil is mainly clay-based, which is ideal for Chardonnay. At an altitude of 200-300m, cold fog comes in, but the wind is strong and there is plenty of sunshine during the day. Fermented and aged in French barrels for 14 months (50% new oak), with fresh lime, oyster shell nuances and elegant acidity. The brioche-like aroma from the barrels is impressive. With a robust body and firm structure, this is a high-grade Chardonnay with a sense of scale. Production volume 226 cases. The magnum bottle is etched, with the Dancing Maidens painted on the back.

Vintage Information

The 2019 VTG is even more powerful and robust than the 2018 VTG when it was first released.

The long, warm summer meant a long growing season without any heat waves, and the grapes were ripe enough to be harvested.

Beginning on September 10th, the Wente clone produced very small bunches, the Montrachet clone produced generously larger bunches, and the Robert Young clone was somewhere in between.

The quality and yield are sufficient, and the result is a larger, more robust mountain Chardonnay than the 2018 VTG, which is beginning to express the characteristics of this vineyard more clearly each year.

Production volume: 226 cases

Technical information

Winemaking: Fermented and aged in French barrels (Louis Latour, François Frères) for 14 months (50% new barrels)

Tasting Comments

The wine was harvested with careful consideration of the pH and Brix to bring out the Burgundy-style citrus aromas that reflect the coolness of the vineyard, and this is clearly reflected in the taste.

Fresh lime, oyster shell notes, elegant acidity. The brioche-like aroma from the Louis Latour barrels is impressive.

The essence of the flavor is a robust body and solid structure, resulting in a superior Chardonnay with a sense of scale.
