Aged 24 months in French barrels (18 months in 100% new barrels, 6 months in barrels used for several years). A top cuvée blended only from our own vineyards. It represents our attitude of continuing the constant dialogue (discussion) to define the definition of excellent winemaking. The blend is decided every year through discussion.
Nearly 40 years ago, before Duckhorn released their first wine, the Duckhorns and their winemaker had some spirited discussions around the kitchen table.
Although their winemaking was fiercely competitive, and their focus was on creating varietal wines, Duckhorn had always been fascinated by the artful blending of several cuvées from the many distinct vineyards of Napa Valley.
Dedicated to crafting world-class estate wines of depth and complex character, The Discussion, blended exclusively from estate-grown grapes, represents the pinnacle of Duckhorn Vineyards' portfolio and demonstrates the ongoing dialogue that defines great winemaking.
Vintage Information
2019 was another excellent vintage, producing wines of attractive luster and poise. The season began with a rainy winter followed by a mild spring. As a result, flowering occurred a little later than usual, but the summer weather was perfect and there were no major heat waves, allowing the flavors to ripen ideally. The white wines were complex and powerful, while the red wines had elegant tannins, attractive aromas, and a refined finish with beautiful fruitiness.
Tasting Comments
The outstanding 2019 vintage has produced a profound, elegant and complex expression of The Discussion. Lavishly layered aromas of black plum, raspberry and raspberry emerge from the glass, accompanied by notes of cedar, sweet baking spices such as cinnamon and clove, and hints of cocoa. Smooth, velvety tannins lead to a lively, dramatic finish.
