Each variety shines with its own unique character, and the complex flavors that overlap one after another become deeper, with umami and supple tannins layered on top of each other. This wine has a surprisingly long finish and is a perfect wine. You can enjoy the lively flavor even when young, but aging will create even more depth and elegance.

Young but vibrant taste
Vintage Information
2019 was a fantastic vintage, just like the previous year, 2018.
There was ample rainfall during the winter, continuing into May, which allowed the vines to grow vigorously, but it was also very humid, so it was important to adjust the length of the branches and to space the leaves apart to improve ventilation.
Ample rain and favorable summer weather helped the grapes grow, producing what would normally be many bunches and large berries, but the tireless work of Colgin's vineyard team has kept bunch numbers in check and prevented berries from growing too large, encouraging smaller, more concentrated berries.
The weather remained very good in September, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly, and by mid-October the temperatures had dropped both at night and during the day, allowing us to harvest excellent fruit that was fresh, retained its acidity, and had a well-concentrated flavor and aroma.
This vintage is characterized by seamless, silky tannins, yet has a robust core of power.
The potential of this vintage can be fully enjoyed while young, and long bottle aging will add further complexity and depth to the fruit flavors.
Tasting Comments
Alison Tozier: The 2019 still has youthful, bright fruit notes to the fore, but is overflowing with the distinctive character of the IX Estate.
The complex blend of attractive berry aromas of black cherry and huckleberry, spicy notes of sage and juniper berry, rich aromas of potpourri, and powerful mineral aromas reminiscent of crushed rock, iron, and pencil lead.
The palate is pure with gorgeous fruit throughout, and the tannins are smooth and seamless, spreading pleasantly throughout the mouth and leading to a silky finish.
An exquisite finish with many more complex elements to come in the future.
Parker Point 100 (Wine Advocate ends Oct.2021) by Lisa Perrotti-Brown: As is typical of Colgin, various aromatic elements emerge one after the other.
Blackberries, plums, creme de cassis, pencil leads, star anise, wild sage, Indian spices, lavender, etc.
The rich, full-bodied palate is very firm, perfectly framed by exquisitely ripe tannins and excellent acidity, and the earthy nuances that characterize Colgin are lingering on the finish.
This complex, multi-layered wine with its seamless beauty of flavour results in a breathtakingly perfect finish.
Field Information
The company's own vineyard, located in Pritchard Hill, where many of the finest wineries are located, is called "Number Nine Estate," and covers 50 hectares of land on hilltop overlooking Napa Valley at an altitude of approximately 335-427m.
The steep slopes filled with boulders were cleared and 8 hectares were planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Syrah in the late 1990s.
Two types of wine are produced from this vineyard: Red Wine and Syrah.
The winery is also located here, and although compact, it is equipped with luxurious, intricately designed, state-of-the-art facilities with attention to detail to make brewing easy.
Number Nine Estate
The grapes for Cariado, which is made from the winery's other vineyards, Tickson Hill in St. Helena and David Abreu's Madrona Ranch, are also brought to the winery for fermentation.
