A 9ha vineyard located in the middle of the Stags Leap District. Purchased in 2011 by Jane Phillips, former owner of Screaming Eagle. Vixen Block has a special character. Aged in new French oak barrels. Unlike the powerful tannins that characterize Stags Leap, this wine has supple tannins and pure fruit, making it an elegant wine.
Technical information
Winemaking: The destemmed grapes are carefully selected one by one, and all unripe and overripe grapes are separated out.
Aged in new French barrels (Darnajou, Taransaud). Tasted on average once every two weeks to determine the aging period, racking and bottling timing.
Tasting Comments
A wine that combines characteristics different from the powerful tannins that characterize Stags Leap.
It has a fragrant floral aroma, a gorgeous flavor that mixes various berries, a hardness that evokes the mineral rocks and stones of volcanic soil, a soft mouthfeel, and an impressive sweet fruitiness of blue and black berries. The supple tannins and purity of the fruit create an elegant aftertaste that lasts for a very long time.
Field Information
Wildfoote Vineyard
Located almost in the center of the Stags Leap District, east of the Silverado Trail, the tree-planting covers 9 hectares of rolling hills covering 46 hectares (much of which remains virgin forest).
In 2011, the estate was purchased by Jane Phillips, former owner of Screaming Eagle, and renamed "Wildfoot" after the vineyard's founder's surname, Foote, and the wild animals that live in the virgin forest.
After acquisition, the vineyard was replanted with the best clones, with Cabernet Sauvignon as the main vineyard, along with small amounts of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.
The Vixen block used by Bevan is a Cabernet Sauvignon plot with a special character.
