Fresh fruit with beautiful acidity was harvested from F. Johnson Vineyard at the end of August. Fermentation began in stainless steel tanks without the use of barrels, and 100% malolactic fermentation was completed in the stainless steel tank, leading to mellowness. After settling in the tank for several months, it was bottled. The aroma of flowers and tropical fruits, citrus fruits, creme brulée, and butter flavors blend into the mellow taste. This light-bodied wine has a fresh, medium acidity and a mellow, refreshing finish.
Vintage Information
In 2022, there was little rain and warm weather throughout the growing season, resulting in a small yield, but the grapes were rich in flavor, had concentrated aromas, and a gentle acidity, which are characteristic of the variety, and were harvested in the last week of August.
Technical information
Winemaking and Aging: The winemaking goal is simple. Focusing on the fruit of this variety is especially important in making our Signature Selection Chardonnay. Fermented in stainless steel tanks, we focused on bringing out the freshness of the fruit. Malolactic fermentation also took place in tank. No oak barrels were used.
Tasting Comments
Aromas of white flowers and tropical fruits. Tastes of citrus, baking spices, creme brûlée and butter. A mellow and refreshing finish.
Field Information
Frank Johnson Vineyards
Chardonnay was planted over 40 years ago and has since become Pedroncelli's main vineyard.
John Jr. Pedroncelli and vineyard manager Lance Blakely (Jim Pedroncelli's son-in-law) set aside a specific parcel of Johnson Vineyards for this wine.
The vineyard straddles two AVAs, Russian River Valley to the south and Dry Creek Valley to the north, but the parcel for this wine is in the Dry Creek Valley.
The two cool climate elements, including ocean fog and being adjacent to the confluence of two rivers, produce high quality wines.
