Château des Zérans is a small-scale chateau owned by the Gonet-Médeville couple. Surrounded by the wonderful vineyards of Château Margaux, Château Lascombes, and Château Palmer, the Gonet-Médeville couple owns a vineyard located right next to Château Margaux, just across a 3m road from Château Margaux. The Gonet-Médeville couple come from a prestigious family in Champagne and Bordeaux. Xavier, the husband, is the third son of the prestigious Champagne family "Philippe Gonet" in Mesnil-sur-Oger, and his wife, Julie, is the third daughter of the prestigious Sauternes family "Chateau Gilette". The two met while studying at the University of Bordeaux and married in 1997. In 2004, the couple started making wine in Bordeaux. In 2009, fate came to the young couple. They purchased vines from Eric Grandeur, who had been the winemaker at Chateau Margaux for three generations. In 2013, they also purchased the land and became the owners of the chateau. Eric, who knows Chateau Margaux inside and out, believed in the young couple's passion and potential for wine and entrusted this wonderful vineyard to them. The vineyard has a typical Margaux geology, with granite layers 22 meters underground. The couple, who place importance on terroir, replanted the vines in 2009 and began cultivating using the lutte raisonnée method, which does not use pesticides. Although they are not certified organic, they use organic farming methods and plan to switch to biodynamic farming in the future. Aiming to express the terroir and produce wines with plenty of fruitiness and suppleness, the couple separates the grapes into plots and makes Burgundy-style wines. With the completion of a brewery equipped with modern facilities, this chateau is now producing even higher quality wines and is garnering attention for its refined wines.
